Great experience
by: Victoria B. - South AfricaProgram: Meaningful Shark Research in South AfricaMy name is Victoria B. and I am a recent Environmental Science and Biology graduate now doing shark research in South Africa. Here I worked side-by-side with marine biologists, sharks, and various other marine life for a total of one month. I can honestly say that my experience here in South Africa has truly changed my life. I knew I had a passion for the environment and conservation, but working with various marine life definitely confirmed that this is my calling. Shark and marine research...
Simply the best conservation-focused Great White Shark programme
by: Joe Halford - United KingdomProgram: Meaningful Shark Research in South AfricaAfter volunteering with SMRI for a month in August 2019, I felt so sad having to leave. Not only was I leaving the sharks and all of the conservation work, but I was leaving an amazing bunch of new friends. Volunteering with SMRI was a great experience from start to end, it was the utmost privilege to work with Great Whites daily (among other sharks and marine life) and that in itself made the trip one of my biggest life experiences. The conservation work SMRI is doing for Great Whites and oth...
Unbelievable experience!
by: Tia Duckworth - EnglandProgram: Meaningful Shark Research in South AfricaI only volunteered for 2 weeks, however it was the two weeks I've ever had. Everyone was so welcoming and really made it feel at home, making friends and contacts for life. I was there making a film and the staff went above and beyond to help out in any way they could. If you're interested in sharks, it's a must-do. Seeing sharks every day is a dream come true, especially getting to do so in South Africa. I fell in love with country and the people and will definitely be back!
