When it comes to understanding the Caribbean region, there’s no substitute for being there! This interdisciplinary program can be taken full-time for one year or part-time for two years. Courses are co-taught, with an emphasis on understanding connections across languages and cultures in the wider Caribbean region. The flexible MA structure allows selection of one of two streams – a) Caribbean Literatures and Cultures and b) Caribbean Languages and Cultures – depending on personal interests and academic background. Applicants should have at least a second class honors degree, a 3.0 GPA, or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution. Program Highlights
Earn a graduate degree in the linguistic and literary diversity of the culturally rich Caribbean while cultivating sought-after skills of analysis, interpretation and creative thinking.
Articulate a critical vision of regional literature that goes beyond a single canon, or demonstrate an understanding of contemporary Caribbean literature from throughout the diaspora.
Analyze the rhetoric of popular media in the Caribbean to develop visual and media literacies, or examine and interpret visual images of the Caribbean in the fine arts.
Write creatively in the genre of your choice to produce a manuscript of publishable standard.
Choose from varied courses, include Creative Writing, Teaching Second and Foreign Languages, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Cultural Studies.
