Contemporary Mexico: cultural and artistic survivals

In contemporary Mexican culture and society, it is still possible to distinguish forms, attitudes, and manifestations of the distant and not-too-distant past. This course aims to highlight these reflections of the past in today's world through the visual and performative arts. The three-week course will be divided into four main topics: 1. The original cultures of Mesoamerica 2. The viceroyalty of New Spain 3. Independent Mexico 4. Towards modernity and the contemporary world During theoretical sessions, class topics will cover the historical and social contexts of each period, together with its visual and performative manifestations.
