Study Ecuador's unique and complex blend of traditional Andean health practices and newer Western medicine healthcare ideologies and policies. At the same time, practice your Spanish language skills through a 6-week internship or research placement that will give you hands-on experience in the Ecuadorian healthcare industry. Ecuador deeply values traditional Andean health practices and has recently seen a resurgence of these practices. It also has contrasting Western medicinal practices, and these two differing viewpoints create a unique and complex blend of healthcare policies. This program is based in Quito, a city frozen in time that will allow you to observe better this intersection between traditional and modern healthcare practices and ideologies.
Program Highlights
Gain insights into traditional and modern healthcare concepts through classroom experience and engagement with local communities.
Go on excursions to visit various sites, which may include local markets, local NGOs, and other areas of interest around Quito.
Live with a homestay family in Ecuador, with daily breakfast and dinner provided.
Take 16 credits for fall or spring semester, followed by a six-week internship or research project.
Take additional 4 credits for optional language pre-session.
