The University of Otago was established in Dunedin in 1869, making it New Zealand's oldest university. With a focus on the traditional arts and sciences and approximately 22,000 students, the university offers a wide range of courses and student services – from 24-hour computer laboratories to recreational facilities – and more than 100 student clubs and societies. The campus setting is much like large universities in North America while still being close to town and providing an unbeatable location from which to explore New Zealand's South Island. Queenstown and the Southern Alps are only a few hours away, and the wildlife and beautiful landscapes of the nearby Otago Peninsula and surrounding region are easily accessible.

What a wonderful journey
by: Mary Sass - United StatesProgram: TEAN - New Zealand - University of Otago, DunedinFor our program, we had an orientation held in Queenstown, New Zealand where we had an abundance of adventure activities and did a deep dive into the culture of Māori. TEAN helped each and every one of us grow accustomed to the country and helped us learn how to best navigate our study abroad experience. Throughout the semester we were able to take trips provided by the program with our very helpful Dunedin advisor Dee. Dee acted as our New Zealand mom and was there for us through thick and thin...
A time like no other!
by: Sarah Hardin - United StatesProgram: TEAN - New Zealand - University of Otago, DunedinGoing overseas to study in New Zealand was probably one of the best decisions of my life. Not only did I get to meet people from all over the world, but I was allowed to expand my worldview and learn what life looks like outside of the United States. I have so many incredible memories from this journey that pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to adapt to new surroundings - I wouldn't change anything about my time abroad! Anyone on the fence about studying abroad should choose not just...
go to new zealand!
by: Nicki Hagen - United StatesProgram: TEAN - New Zealand - University of Otago, DunedinI took 3 classes ("papers") which were great - I recommend Māori 108 ! The uniflats office paired me with great housemates that I got along with and I really liked my house/ location (I thought mine was one of the best) and loved having a kiwi host. TEAN organizes your living through uniflats so you don't have to worry about too many housing logistics before arrival. Dee (program staff in Dunedin) is very kind and helpful! Dunedin provides great access to south island adventures and beautiful sc...

I always had a wandering mind that’s taken me on different paths in life. As a filmmaker and photographer who loved being in the outdoors, I couldn't say no to the opportunity of six months in New Zealand! So during the Spring semester of junior year, it had dawned on me that I’ve never traveled out of the country. Luckily, with the study abroad fair around the corner and nothing to lose for my senior year, my love for hiking drove me towards the mountains of New Zealand where I continued to wonder.
