This summer I participated in a 2-month internship with the organization Gender Rights in Tech (former Kwanele). The experience I had done for one month online and one month in person and overall I had a positive impression. The organization itself is wonderful, everyone is very nice and helpful, all the tasks were explained to me well and I always had someone I could ask the questions to. I definitely recommend this experience as an in-person internship, during my time online I needed more pos...

My time here has awakened me to take notice of the problems South Africa faces regarding migrant and refugee rights. It’s also been a reality check. The articles about problems in different parts of the world regarding refugees and migrants have become more of a general statement in the everyday newspaper. I had just graduated from university and was looking for an interesting way to start my career. I wasn't immediately ready to start working full-time in the Netherlands and wanted to take some time to do something fun and interesting and educating at the same time. This is why I decided to go abroad again for some time, and in order to learn something from the experience as well, I decided to combine it with an internship. Since I am interested in migration studies, it was also the perfect opportunity to do this on the African continent, so that I could get a new perspective on the phenomenon.
