Unforgettable Farm Work Experience: Skill Development and Cultural Exchange

by: Yana Volokh - AustraliaProgram: Farm Work in Canada (Australian, NZ, and Japanese Citizens)

As an Australian citizen with a passion for agriculture, my farm work experience in Canada was nothing short of incredible. The program offers the perfect opportunity to develop hands-on skills in a variety of farming operations, from dairy and crops to beef and mixed farms. I spent a full season on a family-run farm, where I not only learned valuable agricultural practices but also got paid for my work, which made it even more rewarding. The vast Canadian landscapes are stunning, and working...

Grooming horses in Sweden!

by: Paytten Fankhanel - CanadaProgram: Work in Sweden (Canadians Only)

I had a great time working at a dressage barn in Sweden for the summer! My main duties were grooming and preparing the horses for training sessions with their respective riders, cleaning tack, and daily chores such as turn-outs and feeding. My hosts and co-workers were very kind and helped me learn more about overall horse care and the industry/sport of dressage. I even was able to do some riding at my placement! I was very close to the ocean so I was able to enjoy the near by beaches on my days...

A life changing experience!

I Had the privilege of staying and working with an Irish family for 9 months. I worked with them on their coastal plant nursery on the East coast of Ireland. For work, I worked directly in the nursery with the plants and occasionally, we went on landscaping jobs. It was very lovely and the family were wonderful! Before I left Canada for Ireland I didn’t really know what to expect on this trip. As far as I was concerned, I was going on a trip to learn about horticulture and gain experience in tha...

I just finished my program in college and I couldn't wait to travel and try new things. I think working somewhere is the best way to take in another place and to be able to connect with the community. I was inspired by the experiences of friends and past trainees.

I always wanted to travel after I finished my degree in Agriculture. When I first heard about the A-Way-To-Work program in post-secondary, I knew this was an opportunity I didn't want to miss out on. I am passionate about the agriculture industry. Therefore, getting the chance to experience agriculture practices in a different part of the world seemed like a great way to get work experience and make new connections.
