The African Artists Community Development Project focuses on women's income empowerment and educational support programs for children. The Zambezi Doll Project is made up of 12 mothers and grandmothers of children with disabilities from Livingstone, Zambia. They have come together to form a group that makes dolls by hand out of natural materials. In this way the women earn a living, enabling them to support their children. They work from Monday to Friday at 08:00-16:00. We are looking for volunteers to work with these women, learning how to make the dolls, according to their skill level. Program Highlights
Work with 12 women who collaborate to make handmade fabric dolls for the Zambezi Doll Company, and help them design and create unique dolls.
Learn and practice the most spoken languages in Livingstone - Tonga, Lozi, Nyanja and Bemba - while working with doll makers who speak all four languages fluently.
Make a difference in the lives of handicapped children and help prove that all kids are a valuable part of their community.
Visit the famous Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world, and hike down to view the mighty Zambezi river up close.
Visit the traditional palace of the famous Chief Mukuni and the palace of his Queen, who rule in the largest traditional village in Zambia that 10,000 people call home.
