Volunteer teaching in South Africa is a useful and noble way to spend a summer, a few months, or even a whole year! As a volunteer teacher, you’ll be helping kids or adults gain English skills that they may otherwise be unable to afford, but need nonetheless. With so many economies dependent on the English language nowadays, you’ll be setting these language-learners up for success on the global stage, giving them a more competitive edge.

Best experience of my life!

by: Marissa Pantoja - United StatesProgram: World’s #1 Volunteer Programs. 40+ Countries from $20/day!

I spent 16 days volunteering and traveling solo for the first time in my life with IVHQ at the beginning of February. I worked on the surf outreach and early childhood education programs in Cape Town, South Africa, and it was truly the best experience of my entire life. I have always had a deep passion for volunteering to improve the lives of children and animals in my local community, but it was time to extend my efforts beyond the United States. This decision turned out to be the best one I have ever made. I fell deeply in love with the people and culture of South Africa, and I formed friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. If you are considering volunteering through IVHQ - do it. I felt extremely supported during my entire trip, especially being a single girl in my twenties traveling alone. The local staff at our volunteer house were incredible and so kind + my rep that helped me plan my trip was also super helpful and answered all of my questions so that I was fully prepared to take on this journey! I can’t wait for my next volunteer trip!

A Guide to Volunteer Teaching in South Africa

Why Volunteer to teach in South Africa?

Volunteer teaching in South Africa will take you to places like Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, and even more rural areas where teachers and language skills are more greatly needed. You may be teaching kids their basic ABCs, more advanced colloquialisms to older students, or proper grammar to businesspeople. Keep in mind that it’s also possible you won’t be teaching English at all — your volunteer teaching in South Africa can include other subjects, like environmental education or math!

During your downtime volunteer teaching in South Africa, don’t skip going on a safari — ethically, of course. The opportunities to see animals like lions, giraffes, and elephants will be all around you. Just make sure to explore responsibility.

Volunteer teaching in South Africa will be the adventure of a lifetime! Explore all your options on GoAbroad.com.
