The land rises from the southern plains of the Terai, barely above sea level, to the top of Mt. Everest - the highest peak on Earth, in a distance of less than 130 miles. Most volunteer projects are available in Kathmandu, the capital and largest city in Nepal. Even from the bustling city center - filled with historic temples and carved statues - views of the snow-capped peaks of the majestic Himalayas emerge against the intense blue skies.

Our family volunteer programs take place in 6 child friendly and popular travel locations in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Peru and Costa Rica. They are short-term programs that are designed to fit in with your children’s school semesters and school holidays. Our family volunteering programs range from 1-week to 2-weeks with flexible start dates, making them ideal for families travelling with children under the age of 18. Length: 4-6 months | Intakes: January 2026 Join the Global Leadership Programme, designed to provide you with hands-on experience supporting the work of an international development charity. We are looking for passionate graduates, who are keen to learn about global challenges, work with youth and define their own purpose. After an initial period of training, you will be placed in one of our overseas hubs as a Group Mentor and Project Implementor, you will be supporting our in-country team through coordinating group projects and supporting our project participants on their journey to becoming global citizens. Your days will be filled with exciting challenges and fulfilling experiences, including: 1. Coordinating and delivering impactful project activities with our local partners. 2. Embark on a leadership role as you guide your group of project participants through immersive and exciting cultural activities. 3. Engage your group in reflective discussions and interactive sessions to foster personal growth. 4. Reporting on the progress and success of all international project participants and community development project delivery activities.

Participate in the Environmental Awareness Project, and get the chance to bask in the breathtaking beauty of Nepal, as you contribute to the protection of its environment with our Environmental Awareness Project. The country is home to eight of the highest mountains in the world (they're still growing!), abundant wildlife and lush forests. Nepal is a nature enthusiast’s dream. But Nepal's natural habitats are under threat. Deforestation and soil erosion has destroyed thousands of hectares in the last few years. Friends for Asia has teamed up with a village-based conservation project in Chitwan to help reverse this worrying trend. The objectives of this project are to: - Promote environmental awareness and conservation among local children and villages. - To provide foreign volunteers an opportunity to study and gain new insights into sustainable agriculture, environmental protection and resource management in Nepal. - To promote community development activities.

The Nepalese are known for cooking hearty, flavorful meals and greeting others with "Namaste." While tourism is booming, Nepal still remains one of the poorest countries. Volunteers mostly work in rural communities. Volunteers in Nepal can be caregivers at child care centers, teaching assistants at schools, and counselors for women and girls victimized by human trafficking.
