The Real Uganda's volunteers assist our partners with a variety of empowering community-based activities. Volunteers split their time between these locally requested interventions: Public health and clinical work: Volunteers work in rural clinics providing testing, treatment, counseling services, and prevention education. Nutrition, vegetable gardening, and community sanitation programs are also ongoing. We aim to support rural public health in Uganda. Teaching and childcare: Volunteers work in rural classrooms, choosing what ages and topics to teach. Art and sport are the most popular. Many of these children have experienced different levels of trauma, and as an intern, you'll assist the program in providing stimulating activities and counseling sessions for groups of children when needed. This internship is a great opportunity for getting practical experience in social work while supporting an important social development program. This versatile NGO management & administration experience and observation program gives insight into all aspects of running the Aldeas de Paz Foundation. It's geared toward participants interested in starting their own charity or who want hands-on experience in the day-to-day running of a grassroots NGO. Volunteers and interns observe and assist the coordinator and director with office work, as well as in-community project support, administrative work, and the coordination and supervision of community programs and participating volunteers. The NGO management volunteers and interns also help ensure the well-being of our volunteers and their coordination and full integration into various programs offered, as well as into the social life of the community. The foundation relies on NGO volunteers and interns to ensure smooth operations and therefore requires flexible and dedicated volunteers. Direct work with our primary beneficiaries is an essential part of the work of Aldeas de Paz, so NGO volunteers and interns are also expected to participate in foundation-wide events and activities involving our beneficiaries.

Become a part of the community in Kabale, a town located in southwestern Uganda, and learn about their groundbreaking, integrated approach to addressing and improving maternal and child health. Due to insufficient government infrastructure and funding, nonprofit organizations have taken the lead in providing access to healthcare services, especially in remote regions. With CFHI’s local partner you will rotate through the main general clinic, as well as the newly built Maternal and Child Hospital where you will learn from physicians, nurses, medical officers, lab and ultrasound technicians. At the HIV/AIDS clinic, sit in on counseling sessions, shadow health workers who conduct testing and learn how to reduce rates of mother to child transmission. Accompany outreach local team in a rural village and explore how nutrition and HIV are closely linked. Other opportunities include rotating at a nutrition center that treats and prevents maternal and child malnutrition, visiting traditional birth attendants and healers, and joining a local radio program that provides public health education to the community.

Provide much-needed care and support for a community comprising almost 400 women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Home to predominantly single mums, their children, and some extended family members, the place will greatly benefit from an extra set of hands. The project needs volunteers with diverse skills and from all backgrounds. Take on a unique role, different from that of other volunteers. But, ultimately, you offer an extra set of hands to help lessen the burden of day-to-day operations around the commune. This way, the residents can utilize their time to determine how to earn income and bring themselves and their families out of poverty. As a volunteer, you're expected to bring a positive can-do attitude and a willingness to help the less fortunate. Your time in the commune typically involves between 4 and 6 hours of assistance from Monday to Friday. Upon orientation, you’ll be assigned a coordinator to help you integrate into the community so you feel welcomed and at home. We also have a kindergarten at the commune, where volunteers wishing to assist children can work.
