Teach & Learn in Spain is a graduate program designed for native or near-native English speakers. Through the Teach & Learn in Spain Program, students earn a Master’s Degree while gaining experience in a school in the region of Madrid (Comunidad de Madrid) as a language assistant. This year-long (September-June) academic program implements a hybrid learning model so that students can experience life in Spain, complete a language assistantship (with a monthly stipend), and complete graduate coursework in one of the eight Master’s programs offered. The Universidad de Alcalá accredits this program and is worth 60 ECTS credits. For ESL teachers applying to teach English in Spain, it is possible to find paid volunteer jobs teaching English. Volunteers will teach English in Spanish classrooms throughout the country. Teachers applying for these positions can often do so with no previous teaching experience or qualifications, although they are encouraged to enroll in a TEFL course before teaching. Licensed teachers can teach in Spain in private international schools. Teachers must have 2-3 years of licensed teaching experience before applying to these teaching jobs. Although there are exceptions, it can be difficult to get a job teaching in Spain without an EU passport.
