Become a Dynamic Teacher in Chile!

We are looking to add some fresh, new faces to our wonderful team of teachers! We are based in Santiago and are currently offering visa sponsorship for new teachers looking to come to Chile to teach a mixture of in-person and online classes. Our classes, which focus on conversations, are 1-1 or small groups of up to 4 students consisting primarily of adult learners. Future Dynamic Teachers must: *have a native level of English *be TEFL or CELTA certified (or equivalent) *hold at least a 4-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) *be dynamic and a good communicator *have a valid visa to work in Chile (we help you with this process) *have a good, stable internet connection *have a reliable computer/laptop with a camera & microphone Teaching experience and Spanish are preferred, but not 100% necessary. A Guide to Teaching Abroad in Chile

Locations

Chile may be the best place to teach in South America because of its beautiful geography alone, which includes the Chilean Patagonia in the south and Peru and Bolivia to the north, but the high demand for international English instructors is an even better reason to teach abroad in Chile.

Santiago, with nearly seven million residents in the metropolis, represents over 40 percent of Chile’s population. Nestled in Chile’s central valley, the capital of Santiago offers the highest concentration of teaching jobs in Chile, so it can be the easiest place to find a teaching placement. Teachers in Santiago will enjoy the Mediterranean climate and the city has also recently undergone a bit of facelift. The city invested a great deal in a “new” Santiago, complete with museums, lovely parks, and cultural centers.

Valparaiso. This charming city has earned a reputation as the artistic and free spirited hub of Chile; the colorful port town was once the home of Pablo Neruda. It is less than two hours northwest of Santiago, and is even more popular for tourists than the capital.

Other locations worth exploring teaching opportunities in are Concepción, Vina del Mar, Talcahuano, Antofagasta, Puerto Montt, Osorno, and La Serena. As a general rule of thumb the higher the population of the city and surrounding area, the more teaching opportunities will be available. However, placements in Chilean public schools are available throughout the country, from Arica to Patagonia.

Tourism Hotspots. Popular tourist locations, such as Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine, Patagonia, and San Pedro de Atacama, are meccas for teaching English in Chile, because locals and other foreigners working in the industry need to know the language to cater to tourists. If you are interested in teaching English for tourism purposes, the high tourist season typically begins in November and ends in March, so the demand is even higher a couple of months prior.

It all boils down to how you like to spend your free time and if you prefer the city or the countryside, the coast or the mountains. Choose to teach in Chile in a location that suits your desires best or simply take the leap into the unknown.

I earned my TEFL certification in 2022. After hard years brought onto the world during the pandemic, I had the opportunity to look deeply at my life and how I wanted to live it. One of the primary desires that continued to pop up was my want to live abroad. I have always wanted to learn about cultures in a more meaningful way than visiting an area for a handful of weeks and leaving it as soon as I gained my footing. I wanted to be immersed in it so thoroughly that I genuinely could say I knew the place well. Signing up with International TEFL Academy has been the best decision I have made in my adult life. ITA provides the tools and networks needed to move abroad successfully. Through ITA, I was able to connect to other like-minded individuals determined to live out their dreams as well. Their Facebook groups and class discussions were great places to link and prepare to move abroad. My favorite part of ITA's online TEFL certification was the thoroughness of lesson planning and gaining tools to teach students effectively. I lead classes with confidence because of how much I learned through ITA. As much as this is an opportunity to grow through experience, it is also a way to help others reach their language goals, and ITA was a great stepping stone to earning my teaching job.

As I finish my Tefl class, I can say that I am happy I finally signed up and am very excited to see what will become of it. I think the classes will prove to be beneficial. Many of the assignments dealt with creating lesson plans. I am able to use these lesson plans once I get a job abroad. I found that aspect of the class to be quite useful. I will already be somewhat prepared for the jobs I aspire to get.
