Study Journalism & Broadcasting Abroad

To be a successful journalist, individuals must go beyond the comfort and protection of their hometown bubble to see what the world has to offer. By doing so, individuals gain a perceptive quality to new and unusual things that makes for good news - and the politics involved with what is shared and how it’s presented. Study abroad programs in journalism and broadcasting will help you understand what it takes to succeed in unfamiliar environments and develop a broader global perspective.

Best 4 months of my life!

by: Noelle Germanetto - United StatesProgram: USAC Italy: Reggio Emilia-Education, Communication & Health
10

I studied in Reggio Emilia in Spring 2024. As a Child Education and Italian Studies double major, this program was extremely relevant to my studies. Besides the academics, the Reggio Emilia community was amazing, I made friends for life during my time abroad. Simona and Elena, the program directors, are super kind and helpful, they really cared about us and made me feel at home. This program was an experience of a lifetime, I traveled solo, as well as with friends, and became more confident in myself and in my capability to be independent! My American friends all lived together in apartments, while I lived with Italian students to strengthen my Italian speaking skills. I am still in touch with everyone I made connections with in Reggio Emilia, and I even have plans to see some of them this year! I highly recommend this program, I miss it everyday!

A Guide to Studying Journalism & Broadcasting Abroad

Why Study Abroad

By choosing to study journalism and broadcasting abroad you will be taking a big step toward a career within the field, as you will be practicing many of the same requirements expected from the profession. You will gain cultural understanding and adaptability to new environments and beliefs which is necessary for quality reporting. Journalists often work in fast (and sometimes dangerous) environments, leaving no time for personal beliefs or judgements to get in the way of completing assignments. By experiencing new places and cultures, the veil of expectation, assumptions, and false judgements is challenged and your new perspective will be invaluable. Observing events as they unfold with fresh eyes gives journalists immeasurable experience needed when reporting news accurately and with as little bias as possible.
