Volunteers working in the child care programs work with well established centers and orphanages in suburban regions of Cape Town. The children’s ages range from 18 months to six years old. The children, who come to these programs, have very little in their lives. We as a program, offer them basic educational skills, as well as life and social skills. The children receive meals, and snacks during the day. The meal they eat here might be the only meal they eat all day. The volunteer’s aim is to help the poverty stricken families by giving them hope and opportunity. They will make this happen by providing the families with the skills and knowledge they bring from their own culture. In turn, as a program we will aim to create jobs, job opportunities, and assist in certain financial needs. ...

Volunteering in Cape Town
by: Ines - GermanyProgram: ChildCare and Orphanage Programs in Cape Town | South AfricaI stayed a total of 7 weeks in Cape Town. There I lived in a volunteer house with approximately 15 other volunteers from all over the world. I shared a room with 4 other girls. The house was located in the sea point area which was a very good location because the promenade, W&A Waterfront and many other nice places were very close. The first half of my time I worked at St. Paul's Primary School in Bo Kaap. They told me that I can choose in which class I want to be so I decided to take the Grade ...

by: Bethany GordonProgram: ChildCare and Orphanage Programs in Cape Town | South AfricaIt had always been on my bucket list to volunteer in South Africa, so one day I googled 'volunteer programs' and VS was the first link I stumbled upon. I immediately fell in love with the pictures, programs, tour opportunities, and although I was excited and nervous all at the same time, I applied to volunteer in Cape Town, South Africa! It was the best decision I've made in a long time. Not only were the brochures and profile extremely helpful in preparing me for my travels, but the online staf...
Childcare And Social Welfare Work Experience in Cape Town, South Africa
by: Davis Brown - LondonProgram: ChildCare and Orphanage Programs in Cape Town | South AfricaI volunteered for childcare and social welfare and the pre-departure booklet was the amazing source of information about South Africa and the project. I really loved my project and the children were so lovely. It was a good experience to help them with their exercises and playing with them. It made me realize how a single help can change their life. The accommodation was next to the sea in cape town. One can enjoy local riding in mini buses and taxis to the city center, Camps Bay, the Wate...

I had already done a private internship at an orphanage in Eritrea from 2010 till 2011. I was born and raised up in Germany, but my parents come from Eritrea. So, I decided I wanted to do an internship in my "home"country. That's also why it was not as big deal of a deal for me to go abroad. For me, it was a new experience applying an international program with an organisation, but I knew it would be easier than a private internship.
