When it comes to understanding the Caribbean region, there’s no substitute for being there! This interdisciplinary program can be taken full-time for one year or part-time for two years. Courses are co-taught, with an emphasis on understanding connections across languages and cultures in the wider Caribbean region.

The flexible MA structure allows selection of one of two streams – a) Caribbean Literatures and Cultures and b) Caribbean Languages and Cultures – depending on personal interests and academic background.

Applicants should have at least a second class honors degree, a 3.0 GPA, or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution. The Department will consider applications from students with a first degree in relevant areas such as literatures in English, modern languages, linguistics, communication studies, cultural studies, or area studies. Students with degrees in the Social Sciences, Creative Writing, Communications or Media Studies are also welcome.

Students earn 35 credits through successful completion of 4 courses and a Research Paper. The Research Paper may also take the form of a creative work.
