Composition and Sound Practice as Research

Students will embark on a captivating intellectual journey that fuses the realms of sound, storytelling, and ethnographic research. This level-5 course delves into the innovative intersection of qualitative research methods, sound art, and composition to investigate and represent multifaceted human experiences. Students will be encouraged to adopt an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from the fields of anthropology, music, cultural studies, and beyond, as they work to construct meaningful, layered narratives that engage the senses, intellect, and emotions of their audience. Practical assignments will encourage students to use soundscapes, interviews, field recordings, and more as tools for crafting an ethnographic representations.
