Growing and glowing!

by: Maria Carbajal - El SalvadorProgram: Teach Spanish in the USA

Since the beginning of this experience, it has been amazing, I have grown tremendously as a professional and as a person. I am grateful to live and to the Spirit program for allowing me and helping me develop in a different environment than the one I was used to. Growing up the way I have done this time has fulfilled me and I feel that now I can shine in the way I expected. I hope to continue learning every day from all the experiences at school with my students, from new friends, and from every...

Life changing experience

I have been so blessed with this teaching opportunity. It has all been great so far and I am so satisfied and pleased with it. It has definitely surpassed my expectations. The host school is quite well equipped and organized. The instructional support on campus has been outstanding and the adaptation process both at school and the community has been rather easy and progressive. I have loved every second of this experience! I cannot complain and I am so thankful to God and Spirit for making this...

Career boost

by: Cindy Espedido - PhilippinesProgram: Teach in the United States

Teaching in the US has been my goal 5 years ago, and Spirit Cultural Exchange helped me make it happen. They assisted me every step of the way, as I transition from the Philippines to the US. Teaching in the USA also brought me to places, I only saw on movies. I will be forever grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

I was really inspired to go abroad because I have a deep passion for traveling. For me, the importance of traveling is not simply visiting a place for the touristy attractions. Anyone can find these pictures on the Internet or in magazines. Going abroad gives a person the ability to be embraced by and immersed in the culture of others. There are thousands of cultures around the world, and traveling to places I have not yet visited sounds like an adventure in itself. Another reason I really wanted to go abroad was because of the possibility of volunteering in another country. I had already studied in another country, so this was the perfect opportunity to practice my Spanish and gain skills while helping those who need it.

What inspired you to travel abroad?

I started working at Spirit just months after coming back from traveling solo throughout Europe. I think that trip really made me passionate about spreading the love for travel. I learned so much about myself and the world during those three months. When you travel you get to see how similar all people are, but you also get to experience cultural differences first hand. It really gives you perspective on how little cultural differences can influence an interaction and how empathy and understanding are needed when doing anything, from making friends, to doing business, to enacting foreign policy.
