The Sami languages, also known as Saami or Sámi languages, are a group of languages spoken by the Sami people, who are indigenous to the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and parts of Russia. They are characterized by their unique grammatical features, vocabulary, and phonology. 

The Sami languages have been primarily oral languages, but efforts have been made to standardize and promote their use in written form. The course emphasizes on communication and interaction between students in Sami. Students receive training through communication in various situations in everyday life. New words, speaking and writing exercises and language exercises are adapted for various topics. All topics include verbal tasks, role plays and simple texts.

The course also includes short and overnight excursions. The study concludes with an oral presentation of a project. This course is open for Fall 2024 and is equal to 15 credits.
