Care Work in Peru with Projects Abroad

Summer 2022 was the most fantastic summer I ever had. Meeting new people in a new country was enjoyable during this journey. I usually like to stay where I am, but sometimes I need to refresh myself. This trip gave me a chance to do that. During this project, our team members were so lovely. I enjoyed having new friends and new experiences with ProjectsAbroad. However, adjusting to the environment was challenging for me. The altitude, the food... I had never stayed at this kind of altitude, and I had never tried Peruvian food. I struggled a lot, but I think it was a helpful experience. Now I know that I have to be careful in high-altitude places :) I loved hanging out with the children so much. They are so sweet and genuinely warm-hearted. Even though I am a foreigner who could not understand what they were saying, they kept asking me to play hide-and-seek or zombie game with them. Many thanks to ProjectsAbroad, for giving me a chance to refresh and make wonderful memories!

During my time in Peru as a high school special volunteer, it felt like a dream every single day. The perfect combination between honouring love for travel and exploring but also the experience of immersing into the cultural whilst helping and engaging in the kindergartens. The administration organised everything down to the hour and made us feel safe and secure. The fellow volunteers and staff became family in just the short amount of time, and some will stay life long friends. Being all the way from Australia, really opened up my eyes to what is out there and only made my desire to travel heighten a thousand times. Anyone looking or even thinking of volunteering abroad, Projects Abroad could not be more perfect.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience. The activities planned for us every day were super fun and allowed me to get close with the other volunteers. I loved working with the children, the teachers at the school were very accomodating and friendly even though I don't speak Spanish. I liked that we got plenty of free time to explore various parts of the area.
