The Nutrition Abroad 4 Nutrition Students (NA4NS) program invites dietetic interns to the beautiful island of Barbados. Students will become familiar with the Bajan culture, environment, foods, and cuisine through a variety of cultural activities. This renal-focused internship rotation ensures they gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of chronic kidney disease and its nutrition management. They will work extensively with dialysis patients and healthcare professionals in a local facility/hospital and via telehealth. Program Highlights

Work in local clinics and hospitals and via telehealth with patients and healthcare professionals in the management of chronic diseases, such as end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

Work with local health organizations on developing and presenting community programs for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease.

Investigate medical and health-related databases for professional scientific databases/journals for the most current nutrition recommendations and guidelines.

Become familiar with the cultural, political, environmental, and financial factors that impact food procurement and disease in the local population.

Develop cultural competence and humility by learning about a different culture.
