Volunteer in South Africa and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Unlike other programs, your experience is based on actual conservation work. You are expected to participate in activities ranging from perimeter patrols and reserve maintenance to game counts, wildlife relocations, and more. Along with other participants, you stay in luxury shared accommodation with all the amenities you might need. 

The program takes place on a proclaimed private nature reserve close to the bushveld town of Thabazimbi. Various plains game, including giraffe and zebra, call the reserve home. Though dangerous game isn’t present, you can spot a healthy predator population, including leopards and spotted and brown hyenas. 

Spend at least two weeks on the reserve, with the option of extending for up to six weeks. We welcome volunteers 18 years and older who are reasonably fit and healthy.

Endangered Species Conservation in South Africa

Become a part of the only wildlife conservation volunteer program in the Gonarezhou Transfrontier Park and Mozambique! Together with other participants, you contribute to the protection of animals that call the reserve home. Collect vital data (such as game populations and rare sightings) and monitor the area's condition on daily game drives and bush walks. All evaluated data is shared with relevant institutions.

This wildlife conservation program largely involves physical work, which is more fun than you think it would be! Get your hands dirty while immersing yourself in the African bush, among animals in their natural habitat. The volunteer work you do is key to the survival of wildlife and the success of wildlife conservation! 

The program includes en-suite accommodation shared by a maximum of 2 persons. Volunteers stay in shared safari tents in our northern camp during winter (March to October) or in shared chalets in our southern camp during summer (November to February).

The program duration is 3 weeks and cannot be extended due to visa regulations.

Loved the project! This project is based on actual conservation work in the African bush. Tracking elephants and Tiger fishing counts definitely to my personal highlights! with this project you definitely contribute to conservation.

It was always my dream to come to Africa and see those majestic
animals in their natural habitat. Ngala Wilderness made it possible for
me I had the most amazing encounter of an elephant bull during one of
our many bush walks. For everybody interested in in actual wildlife

A once in a lifetime experience

Hi, my name is Huda. I'm 18 years old and at the moment I'm taking a gap year between school and university.
Africa has always been one of my dream destinations and I am very grateful to Ngala Wilderness for making this trip a perfect experience. For me volunteering was absolutely the right decision, because as a volunteer you are a part of the every day life and can experience life as a local. Every day was very different, teached us something new and of course Fabio and Christian did their best so that we could experience South Africa to the fullest. 
The Program was just incredible and was the perfect mix between helping on the farm, going on adventures, learning something about nature and wildlife but also relaxing and just having fun. 
The opportunities for activities on the farm and in the surrounding area are huge and with Ngala Wilderness' help we were able to do everything we wanted to do. For example, we were on a horse safari and saw giraffes and zebras just a few meters away from us. It was really one of the most amazing moments of my life. We were also allowed to accompany a veterinarian on a rhino treatment and not only watch from up close, but even assist a little. These were just two of many incredible moments that made our time there so unforgettable.
But not only the activities but also the time on the farm made our stay very special. We all grew together and always had a very fun time: long car rides with good music, great evenings together with freshly cooked food, playing community games together, long walks on the farm with the 2 lovely dogs, sitting around the fire and much more.
We also got to know other locals and they were all so kind and interested in our adventure so that we had very interesting and educational conversations. I absolutely loved the cultural exchange and learning about peoples way of living and thinking in South Africa. Christian and Fabio have always tried to bring us closer to the culture and traditions and allowed us to participate in it. This included tasting delicious national dishes, practicing typical customs, but also many explanations about history, people, nature and animals. Overall it was a very educational time. 
Another think I definitely have to mention ist the beautiful accommodation on the farm we stayed in. Every single lodge is decorated and designed with so much love to the detail that you directly feel at home. Not only did we live in the middle of nature, but we also learned to live with nature and that is something very special. We stayed in two different accommodations and both were unique in their way. Despite the minimalistic lifestyle, we had everything we needed and as a highlight we even had a small pool.
All in all I’m very grateful for the time we spent there and it was definitely a once in a life time experience that will remain in my memory forever. A big thank you to Christian and Fabio, who made this experience possible and made the trip so special. I would fully recommend such an adventure to everyone because with Ngala wilderness you are definitely in good and safe hands.

Once in a lifetime experience!

It's not easy to sum up what I experienced here, but it was the most rewarding and awesome experience ever! Before coming to South Africa I could only dream of experience Africa's notorious Big 5. We where really well taken care of and the food was just fantastic.

Breathing nature, breathing adventure

When looking back at our wonderful time in South Africa  with Fabios and Christians volunteer program, I feel a very special kind of happiness that I have never felt before.
Not only did we learn a lot about flora and fauna, while staying in beautiful nature lodges, we were also very fortunate to experience a very different daily life in comparison to our ordinary life’s back in Germany. 
Everyday was a surprise of itself, full of captivating nature and a brisk atmosphere.
Our day always started early so we could make most of every second that we had. 
We were successfully searching for tracks of the wildlife around us, cleaned standpipes, opened roads and fixed fences, enhancing our handcraft. We were confronted with new facts and were able to expand our knowledge about the big five and amazing other animals, for example the antelope species that we were involved with multiple times. 

Besides the physical farmwork we always had a balance of enjoying the nature lodges with their beautiful pools, breathtaking views and the privilege of living together like a family. 
Apart from wildlife conservation we had plenty of freetime activities that Fabio and Christian have organized for us.
We went horse riding, unexpectedly surprised by giraffes, kayaking, we had a workshop all about snakes and got in touch with the different dangerous snake species, we got the opportunity to go to an animal sanctuary where we got up close to lions, we met a vet that took us to a rhino treatment, hiked and climbed up a mountain.
Aside from that Fabio and Christian took us to the remarkable Marakele-nationalpark where we stayed in dazzling little houses surrounded by the Big 5 and were deeply impressed by the wildlife and soft nature.
That is not all! We had many more opportunities for various adventures.
It was more than just an Enjoyment. Not only did we have fun, we additionally learned plenteous  about specific subjects, our surroundings and activities.
We were blessed to experience the volunteer program in so many ways from so many different perspectives. 
Especially being together with people that represent the culture and embody the knowledge that they have taught us with great passion is a true enrichment. Christian and Fabio always made us feel comfortable and welcome with every challenge they were opposed with. 

We had really good talks and evenings with locals,with a pleasant atmosphere, various entertaining, funny moments and enjoyed daily fresh cooked food. 
The volunteer program has given me so much more than just knowledge about the wildlife and nature.
I grew as a person, got to know myself in a new way and experienced things that I wouldn't have been able to experience anywhere else.
 I feel truly enlightened by this unique experience. 
I  definitely look back on this adventure positively in the hope of returning one day!

Once in a lifetime!

It was an unforgettable experience! Working close up with Africas Wildlife, conserving the natural

habitat of all these wonderful animals, this couldn’t have been a more memorable and rewarding
experience. I’ve learned so much about animal behavior, was thought how to track through the
bush and picked up some African languages. Truly a one of experience!

Exceptional Experience

This has been a fantastic experience, from the start until the end. 
The project owners were extremely welcoming together with the other volunteers  I felt like very soon becoming part of a family.
The wildlife and beautiful scenery were breathtaking, through conservation work on the Reserve we could contribute our part to save Africas wildlife. 
Food was really delicious and the accommodation was truly luxurious.
