The food was delicious, the culture and history of Spain was magnificent, and my host family was super kind and accommodating. Madrid itself was also very clean, full of friendly people, and the safest city I have ever lived in. You don't receive much guidance from the program in regards to teaching, navigating the city, or making friends, but I was able to overcome most of these challenges myself or with the help of my host family after sometime. Would highly recommend this program if you are looking for a change of pace.

Living with my host family made me feel truly welcomed and part of their home, and every day gave me a chance to learn more about the culture, the language, and myself. From the beautiful nature and exciting adventures to the small everyday moments, I gained new perspectives and made memories I will never forget.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I was inspired to work for Greenheart International because of its values toward international travel. Cultural exchange should not only impact the person traveling but also positively impact the people and places visited. Greenheart always challenges every participant to become a “world citizen,” and I think that heightens the cultural exchange experience.

My career was starting to become very draining, and I didn't want to lose passion for my work as a Speech Language Pathologist, so I knew I needed a break. I also knew I wanted to travel and have many adventures. I wasn't financially stable enough to go on a lengthy trip. Working abroad seemed like the perfect combination of both maintaining an income and opportunities for travel.

At the end of 2016, I began to set goals for the New Year. I have had many experiences in my life so far, but I felt incomplete because I had not traveled abroad! I felt a calling at the beginning of the New Year to travel, and decided to pursue it to find out why. Given that I have Italian and Sicilian heritage, I knew that I wanted to travel to these places. My lifelong dream was (and still is) to travel to Italy! I also felt that traveling would add to my professional abilities upon graduating college.
