Annapurna Base Camp is a world-class trekking trail in Nepal, located in the high glacial basin north of Pokhara. The trek has an extraordinary variety of ecosystems because of the unique combination of depth and height. It is surrounded by snow giants, including the Annapurna Himalayan ranges and other peaks above the 7000-meter mark, so it receives only seven hours of sunlight a day in the summer season. A dense tropical forest of bamboo and Rhododendron cover the south-facing slopes and the north-facing slopes are covered by rain shadow.

The sanctuary is considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists, as it is believed to be the abode of their deities, so Annapurna was not open to foreigners until 1956. From the sanctuary, visitors can catch spectacular views of Machhapuchhere (6993 m), Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Lamjung Himal (6983 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7555 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), and Himchuli (7246 m).
