Taste of the Northern British life
by: studyabroadisforeveryone - United StatesProgram: Study at Edge Hill UniversityThis experience changed my life. When deciding to study abroad I was looking for an English-speaking country and preferred British culture, so I was satisfied with my decision to study abroad for a semester at Edge Hill University. Little did I know that the accent would be so tricky to comprehend at first, but I believe that I truly experienced the northern way of British life. The community is so welcoming and I loved getting to know my classmates and other students. Everyone was willing to le...
Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, England
by: Olivia - HernandoProgram: Study at Edge Hill UniversityEdge Hill University was such a great pick for me when choosing to study abroad. From day one, my experience was fantastic. The layout, accommodation, and location of the university is excellent. The international office an enormous help and so supportive in what could be a scary transition for some students when first entering a new country. From my experience, the other students were very welcoming and helpful at all times. It was and still is like a home away from home. I would encourage any...

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by learning about other cultures. This revealed itself in the extensive amount of French and Italian I took in middle school and high school. I was lucky enough to participate in a short-term exchange program in Italy in high school. After participating in this program, I knew I wanted to study abroad in college.

I thought England wouldn’t be quite as much of a shock to me when studying abroad (wrong on that count) and I had always been intrigued by the greater world outside of the U.S. I became even more willing to look into it when I found out my scholarship would work on one of Saginaw Valley’s partner programs just as if I was sitting in Saginaw.

When I was thirteen, I was a student ambassador to Australia with the People to People program. I spent three weeks driving down the east coast of the country, and during that time I swam in the Great Barrier Reef, threw boomerangs with Aborigines, stayed with a host family, ate crocodile meat, got chased by kangaroos, basically I had the trip of a lifetime. After that trip, I knew I wanted to see more of the world, and I knew I wanted to study abroad in college.
