Barnard Acting in Paris is an intensive Acting class that focuses on the practical study of key Contemporary French theatre practitioners that have contributed to the understanding of acting as a physical and ensemble-oriented practice. The class seeks to practice core principles developed by Peter Brook at Le Bouffe du Nord, Le Theatre Du Soleil, and the Ecole Internationale du Theatre du Jacques Lecoq. During the class, the students will attend week-long workshops with Master performers trained under these pedagogies to further their understanding of a performer’s work on stage. 

Functioning in tandem with the Translating Theatre Workshop led by Prof. Postlewate, the course will practice the acting ideas acquired through the performance of new translations of plays by Wajdi Mouawad and others to be determined. Both classes will attend performances of the plays selected to understand further how the body, language, and ensemble work operate to create meaning on stage. Besides the classwork, a series of other shows and Parisian outings to Museums and Parisian landmarks will be scheduled as part of the experience.
