Unlike other study abroad programs, we keep the size of our programs small. We believe that group sizes of more than 50 students hurt the ability to integrate into a culture. The ASA staff is a group of people who are well traveled, experienced in international education, always there to assist students, and who have studied abroad.

Forever changed by my experience
December 02, 2024by: Selena Shaw - United StatesProgram: Study in Barcelona, Spain, at UAB with ASAStudying abroad with ASA was the best decision I made in my academic journey. Through ASA, I was able to study abroad in Spain at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). This was truly a transformative experience as I had the opportunity to blend academics with cultural experiences. Upon my arrival, I was amazed to see the community already building around me. ASA provides each program of students with resident directors that act as guides during students entire stay abroad. These directors immediately provided a sense of community and support, and quickly became our second family. ASA houses students all over the city in quality homestays, apartments, and dorms. Not only did ASA provide a welcoming community and beautiful homes for our stay, but they also provided us with opportunities to immerse ourselves in the local cultural through cooking classes, day trips around Barcelona, and a weekend trip to Sevilla with our program directors. We were also encouraged to explore Europe and the cultures that surrounded us on our own, outside of the planned program activities. Many students planned weekend trips, participated in local activities, local events, holiday activities and much more. Studying abroad connected me with some of my closest friends, allowed me to make the most amazing memories, and provided me with unique views and outlooks on cultural diversity that differ from my peers back at home. This experience has forever changed me. I encourage every student to not only study abroad with ASA; to take advantage of this experience by truly immersing themselves in the culture around them, while studying abroad. This is truly a once in a life time experience; I am beyond grateful I had the opportunity to study #AwayWithASA

I loved study abroad with ASA!
September 05, 2024by: Anika Woelffer - United StatesProgram: Study and Intern in Sorrento, Italy with ASAI recently just got back from studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy and I couldn't recommend it more. It was the absolute best place to go abroad and I miss it every day. Sorrento is a small town in Southern Italy and has the best views of Naples and the Islands of Ischia and Capri. I had no expectations of what my experience would be like but it truly was the best thing I could have done for myself. One of the biggest things I did was become a Jetsetter through my program Academic Studies Abroad. As a Jetsetter, I had bi-weekly reflection posts where I had to dive deep into Italian culture. It impacted my experience drastically because I was able to be fully immersed in the culture and learn to appreciate it. Sorrento was the most beautiful place I've ever been to and couldn't recommend studying abroad more!

An Unforgettable Experience I Would Choose Again!
August 13, 2024by: Amy Claire Godwin - United StatesProgram: Study in Maastricht, The Netherlands with ASAThis program in Maastricht is incredible. Firstly, getting to Maastricht was the easiest process I could have asked for with the group from ASA helping with every step along the way. The staff on the team in Maastricht also helped a significant amount in sending out information and keeping me updated. I also thought throughout the program, the staff organized so many fun and exciting trips and events that only brought me more amazing experiences with some amazing people. The classes were all well organized and the teachers and tutors of the discussion groups were super knowledgable and understanding. With the flexibility of classes I also had the ability to travel and to experience so many different cultures. I learned a significant amount about how big the world actually is and I feel grateful to have been able to grow in so many ways since making this decision. Overall, I highly recommend this experience and couldn't feel more thankful for people I was able to meet and the place I was able to make a home in.

I also grew up in Amherst, MA, so I had experienced both big city life, as well as small town life. Salamanca seemed like it was somewhere in between the two, which attracted me. A very close friend from NYC had also studied there and he encouraged me to go. I have absolutely no regrets about choosing Salamanca, and am hoping to take my wife and kids there soon.

A typical day in the life of an ASA student in Seville involves waking up in the home of your Spanish family, having a light breakfast (toast, cereal, fruit, tea, juice), and practicing a little Spanish with your Spanish Mom. Then, walking to class typically takes around 10 to 15 minutes. The walk is beautiful, along the streets of Triana and crossing the Guadalquivir River overlooking the Tower of Gold. While students will consider Sevilla their home, there is a large community of international students with whom the classes will be shared. Between classes there may be time to have some coffee with your language exchange partner. After class, you’ll head home for lunch, study for a couple hours, and prepare for a night out where you’ll go have tapas and then dancing with your Spanish and international friends.
