Over the course of six weeks, the coastal capital city of Rabat, Morocco, will be home to students of the APA Rabat: The Contemporary Maghreb summer program. Dive into this rich civilization at the crossroads of African, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and European influences!

All students follow two courses:
1. Modern Standard Arabic language according to level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
2. One elective, taught in English:
- History of Colonial and Postcolonial North Africa
- Language, Identity, and the Politics of Memory in Contemporary Morocco
- Gender and Sexuality in North Africa
- Social Movements in the Maghreb
- Political Islam

Each course is four credit hours.

In addition to the Arabic course, students meet weekly with the instructor individually to work on various aspects of oral and written expression and comprehension. A weekly darija lesson (Moroccan dialect) provides useful vocabulary heard in markets, restaurants, and shops.

Cultural site visits and events and full board homestay housing are included.

Students may choose to extend their stay by two weeks to volunteer with an NGO.
