No matter what you’re interested in, chances are you can find what you’re looking for in Vienna. To help narrow down your options, take a look at this breakdown of popular types of Vienna internships:

Short term internships and summer internships vs. long-term internships. The first thing to consider is how much time you have to devote to an internship abroad. Internships in Vienna are available on both a short-term or long-term basis, ranging from a month or so and usually up to a year. If graduation is looming, but you’re still working towards your degree, summer internships are also available and popular among students. Remember some internships are only a part-time gig, while others require a full on 40-hours-a-week commitment.

Popular fields of work. Vienna is a leading business and technology hub, thus holding some of the most popular types of internships in those sectors. Finance internships also sit at the top of this list with education and hospitality internships trailing close behind. If none of those strike your fancy, there are also many other prominent industries where you might find an internship in Vienna.

Paid vs. unpaid internships in Vienna. The last thing to consider when sorting out the details of your internship abroad in Vienna is distinguishing between a paid and unpaid internship. In today’s job market, candidates vying for top positions are finding it increasingly competitive. Hands-on experience and acquiring new skills learned through internships often provide rising college graduates with a huge advantage. If the experience alone comes with promises of a future position, then the ramen dinners may be worth it. If not, find one that will pay you in more than experience and good vibes.

Summer in Vienna

My experience abroad was different than most, because instead of taking classes, I was working at an internship! I loved the flexibility this offered me, because I was able to explore Vienna and travel to new places! At my internship, I gained valuable career experience and guidance from my mentor. When I wasn't working, I had so much time to explore the city. Vienna is a cultural hub with so much to do, especially in the summertime. My highlights were swimming in the Danube after work, exploring the foodie scene, and going to so many museums!
