High School Community Service & Volunteering Programs in Morocco

This program is based out of the American Language Center (ALC), a non-profit with over 30 years of experience working with local NGOs on cross-cultural exchange. Through the ALC’s myriad outreach programs, you’ll work with local youth, collaborate with Moroccan peers, and learn to look at complex issues from multiple perspectives. You’ll pack a lot into these three weeks, and options abound. Mentor underprivileged youth at a local association whose mission is to integrate youth into their community. Run arts and crafts workshops, help tutor English for after-school programs, and take part in planning and implementing environmental activities with local public schools. Living with a homestay family, you’ll get a warm welcome and a rare glimpse of Moroccan traditions. Together you’ll shop, prepare meals, and gather around the family table. In your free time, you can dabble in Moroccan pottery and play soccer, ping pong, or volleyball at the city beach. Added bonus; you’ll also have access to all the ALC’s clubs and offerings — from sports, music, and movies to public speaking, debate, and Model UN.

For students interested in exploring the cultural crossroads of North Africa while gaining valuable insights into Islam, migration, and Arabic language. From the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains to the sweeping sands of the Sahara, Morocco reveals itself as a land of crossroads—where Africa, Europe, and the Middle East converge. On this journey, students uncover new perspectives on contemporary Morocco while tracing its living connections across continents.

Embark on a two-week journey through the desert, mountains, and to the sea in Morocco. Volunteer in a high Atlas Mountains village and ride camels in the Sahara. Learn to surf in the coastal town of Essaouira and admire Marrakesh's colorful markets. This incredible experience will leave you unforgettable memories of Morocco's unique and diverse landscapes and cultures. Engage deeply with Southern Spain's vibrant culture and Northern Africa's captivating traditions while enhancing your Spanish through lessons with local instructors. Enjoy a feast of traditional flavors, from savory tapas and aromatic mint tea to the unique spices of Moroccan tagine. Experience the rhythm of flamenco and the art of Spanish cooking, and wander the striking blue-washed buildings and medinas of Chefchaouen. Stay with a traditional Amazigh community in the High Atlas Mountains for a true cultural exchange between our students and local residents. This program for teens from 9th – 12th grades fosters cultural understanding and language skills through language lessons and community engagement.
