Seamester: Caribbean to Mediterranean - 70 Days

By necessity, this program will substitute shore time for sea miles as we'll be covering 5,000 plus over the course of the trip. Voyage emphasis? Bluewater sailing, and lots of it! Crewing a yacht on a transatlantic voyage is not something many can say they have achieved. Well, our participants can guarantee this while serving as members of our crew. At the same time, they earn 9 college credits in Nautical Science, Oceanography, and Student Leadership while visiting Caribbean, Portuguese, British, Spanish, and French ports along the way. As a team, your sense of accomplishment will be profound, and as an individual, the experience will set you apart. The skills you'll develop and the challenges you'll overcome are uncommon. Not only a perfect subject for any job interview, but this voyage is also likely to contribute long after you have departed the vessel. After all, we are the sum of our experiences and this one will be indexing.

12-week Gap Year Semester Course

This 12-week Gap Year Semester Course is our most expansive and influential program. During the first six weeks, students travel to the UK and France, where they can explore art, architecture, food, culture, and much more. After this, they will travel to Tuscany and stay in Montepulciano, a beautiful hilltop town, for a two-week intensive Italian course. In the second six weeks, they will join other students to study on the Autumn Gap Year Course. They will travel across Italy, visiting Venice, Castelfranco, Bologna, Florence, Siena, and Rome, as well as taking day trips to San Gimignano, Verona, Naples, and Pompei. This program aims to give students the greatest experience of Italy and a better understanding of the "art world." It is an ambitious program that spread from the ancient world in Rome and Naples to the Renaissance in Florence and contemporary art in Venice. Students will learn about the works of Leonardo, appreciate Titian, and understand why Michelangelo is so significant. Students will also be introduced to dozens of other artists, read great poets from ancient and modern times, learn about rhetoric (Cicero), history, and literature, & appreciate architecture.

Amazing Gap Year Program!

December 10, 2024by: Isabella Kershner - United StatesProgram: 12-week Gap Year Semester Course

Where to start with how much I came to adore Art History Abroad during the 12 week course? To begin, I would say that you don’t have to be an art historian or planning on majoring in art history to have a fantastic time in the program. As long as you love learning and are excited by museums and historical sites, you are perfect for this trip! However, as amazing as the tutors were, with their incredibly curated lesson plans and museum tours, I would say that the learning isn’t what makes this experience the best- it was the people I met. I made some of the greatest memories of my life during this program, and met friends I know I will never lose. The experiences you get to be apart of during this trip are life-changing, I don’t think I will ever get over visiting the Vatican on a private tour or being in St. Mark’s Basilica completely alone, and those are just two of the wonderful opportunities AHA offers! The tutors become your best friends, and the fellow students become family. I can’t recommend this program highly enough- it’s a fantastic gap year opportunity I would do a thousand more times if I could.
