IGS has placed students in some of the world’s most exciting museums. Our internship placements typically fall into two categories: working on the floor or conducting research and marketing behind the scenes. Floor work includes assisting the docent in the setup and interpretation of current exhibits and galleries. This may include constructing backdrops and computer modeling. Once the exhibit is in place, you are asked to learn the history of the showcased items and share your knowledge with the visiting public. Behind-the-scenes work may include conducting original research on life histories or local historical events. This may include online research and library visits. Likewise, you may be asked to conduct interviews in the community and record knowledge that is in danger of being lost forever. Duties are usually associated with the following: Set up exhibits Conduct online research Interpret for the public Interview local residents Write for the museum’s website Social media outreach

By joining this project, you will get to make a real difference in the community and in the lives of the children, adults and families living in the area through a variety of ways. The residents of the community are looking to improve their lives and that is exactly the aim of this project. Plus, the project is flexible enough that if you have a special skill you want to teach (art, music, dance, etc.), you can arrange your own class or workshop and share your knowledge.

Spend 12 inspiring weeks exploring Barcelona, Rome, and Paris—three of Europe’s most iconic cities. World Class Programs offers high school students the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. Our summer program is designed for teens from all academic backgrounds who are excited about immersing themselves in Italian culture and lifestyle. This pre-college program offers various course study options, including Art History, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Photography, Architecture, Italian language, and Tuscan Cuisine. Students can choose a major course for daily focus (Monday to Friday) in the mornings for three hours. Then, they attend elective classes, each lasting two hours, three times a week in the afternoons. On weekends, they go on day trips around Italy to explore cultural differences from city to city. As China reopens its borders to tourists, we invite young people from around the world eager to explore Chinese language and culture, offering a unique opportunity for cultural exchange. In 2026, we will host a summer camp to immerse international youth in both Chinese language and cultural experiences over two weeks. The journey begins in Beijing and extends to nearby traditional sites. Throughout the camp, participants will engage in personalized Mandarin lessons and diverse cultural activities. The Mandarin classes will focus on both language skills and practical themes to enhance learning, enabling participants to confidently communicate with locals during their exploration. Before and beyond college, Baret Scholars explores 7 regions of the world, their passions, and their purpose. Baret Scholars is a global gap year program that brings together a cohort of 180 high school students from around the world to journey across 7 regions (North/South America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, India, and China/Asia), over 180 days, in a semi-structured and self-guided gap year experience. This will be their best year yet. Named after Jeanne Baret, the first woman to circumnavigate the globe, Baret Scholars provides students with a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the world, paving the way for years of fulfillment and achievement. The program serves as a foundation for their future, fostering cultural literacy, a global perspective, and a desire to create a better world.

The purpose of the Writing Retreat is to support budding writers in accomplishing an ambitious, self-paced writing challenge. This program is modeled after National Novel-Writing Month (a.k.a. NaNoWriMo: the challenge to write 50,000 words in one month) with a community of like-minded aspiring writers. This is your opportunity to set your sights high and expand the limits of your creativity. The goal of the Writing Retreat is rapid production of a first draft—not the careful editing and refining of a final draft. Everyone at the Writing Retreat (including staff) chooses a specific numerical goal for what they’ll write during the month. Then they turn off their inner editors and focus on hitting their daily word count. That’s how we roll at the Writing Retreat.
