The MITP program – and the shorter three-month PGITP – offers the chance to take hold of your future and become an expert in international trade policy. Our signature 12-month MITP covers both theoretical and practical components. The first and second semesters, which are taught online/in-person, tackle the theories and scope of trade rules from a multi-disciplinary perspective of law, politics, and economics. While the program offers a global perspective, its added value lies in its uniquely Caribbean perspective that students can’t find anywhere else. This aspect affords them the opportunity to come up with Caribbean-specific responses to global problems and issues. The practical component includes a two-week study tour in a city or region of particular trade interest of the region (currently, Geneva). When students return home, they undertake a three-month practical internship at a national, regional, or international institution or at a company with a trade-related function. Students have the opportunity to enroll in a multicultural Caribbean campus and experience other cultures at a highly ranked and accredited university.

This program allows students to critically understand and engage with pressing issues in modern-day international relations. They are encouraged to analyze and explore how ideas and the roles of institutions are being reconceptualized in our changing political climates, locally and internationally. Transformations in political systems have resulted in new challenges to international governance, such as global inequality, democratic deficit, environmental degradation, and the changing nature of the conflict. These current transformations require us to critically approach the study of international relations by discussing the applicability of traditional theoretical approaches and institutional processes in a rapidly transforming world.
