<h3>What inspired you to travel abroad?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to go abroad by the idea of experiencing something completely different from my everyday routine. The thought of waking up just steps away from the ocean, learning a new skill like surfing, and meeting people from all over the world was incredibly exciting. I wanted to challenge myself physically and mentally, and this experience seemed like the perfect way to do that.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose the <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/realstep/programs/nature-surfing-training-in-australia-197406 rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>Surf Instructor Training program</ins></a>?</h3>
<p>I chose the Surf Instructor in Australia program because it offered more than just surfing. It was a chance for a complete lifestyle experience. The mix of surf lessons, fitness, yoga, and first aid training made it stand out.</p>
<p>Plus, the instructors, like Nate and Rhys, were dedicated and knowledgeable. They made sure we not only improved our surfing skills but also understood the deeper aspects of surfing.</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about Sydney?</h3>
<p>My favorite part was the natural beauty. I woke up steps from the ocean, watching the sunrise and animals in the morning, and seeing the sunset over the waves in the evening. The wildlife was incredible, and every day felt like an adventure. The people I met also made the experience unforgettable. I met people from all over the world, and being in a place where everyone had at least one thing in common—surfing, friendships formed effortlessly.</p>
<h3>What made your experience in Australia extraordinary?</h3>
<p>The combination of nature, personal growth, and human connections made this experience extraordinary. Every day, I got to surf in some of the most breathtaking spots, surrounded by dolphins and other animals, which might seem scary, but it was peaceful. The sense of community was also amazing, with people from all over the world coming together, sharing meals, and exchanging stories by the campfire.</p>
<h3>How did the local program staff support you throughout your stay?</h3>
<p>The staff was always there to guide and support us. They not only gave us personalized surf coaching but also analyzed our videos to help us improve. Beyond that, they created a welcoming atmosphere, always ready to share advice and stories or even take us on impromptu road trips, making us feel at home.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you had done differently during your time in Australia?</h3>
<p>The experience was so enriching that leaving was the hardest part. I also wish I had taken more time to document my progress in surfing, maybe through journaling or more videos, to look back on how far I had come. Every moment was so special, and I wanted to hold onto all of them. If I could’ve stayed longer, I would’ve.</p>

<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>Mornings started with the sun rising over the ocean, followed by an early surf session around 7 am. Then, after our session, we had breakfast with our roommates before engaging in fitness, yoga, or stretching.</p>
<p>In the afternoon, we had another surfing session, and evenings were spent enjoying sunsets, reviewing our videos, reflecting on our progress, hanging out by campfires, and sharing meals with new friends.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?</h3>
<p>During my free time, I loved hanging out with fellow surfers, exploring the surroundings, and taking spontaneous road trips in the van. Evenings were often spent by the campfire, listening to music and sharing our life stories. The simple joy of cooking, eating, and spending time together also made everyday moments feel special.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you stay in? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I stayed in a cabin by the beach, sharing it with a few other people who quickly became my close friends. The best part was waking up to the sight of the ocean every morning, smelling and feeling the fresh sea breeze, and knowing that a day of adventure awaited. It felt like living in a dream. I wish I could relive these moments again.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about the <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/realstep/programs/nature-surfing-training-in-australia-197406 rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>Surf Instructor program</ins></a> before they begin?</h3>
<p>Future participants should know that this experience is more than just a surf camp. It's a way of life. Also, embrace the unexpected; some of the best moments come from the many spontaneous adventures.</p>

<p>Absolutely! The combination of expert coaching, a supportive community, and breathtaking surroundings makes it an unforgettable experience. Whether you're a complete beginner, like I was, or have surfed before, the program helps you improve in all directions while creating lifelong memories with amazing people.</p>
<h3>What do you feel is the biggest benefit of traveling abroad?</h3>
<p>The biggest benefit is personal growth. I never thought traveling to surf in a new place would teach me so much.</p>
<p>Traveling abroad pushes you out of your comfort zone, teaches resilience, and exposes you to different perspectives. It allowed me to form connections with people from diverse backgrounds and experience moments that will stay with me for a lifetime.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>My time abroad has left me with a newfound appreciation for simple joys. The surf life truly was a lifestyle. Waking up each morning to watch the sunrise, sharing meals with friends, and living fully in each moment. I feel more confident, open-minded, and eager to seek new adventures. It has also deepened my love for the ocean and a more active lifestyle.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel is about immersing yourself in new experiences, connecting with people, and allowing a place to change you. It’s about embracing challenges, learning from different cultures, and returning home with a fresh perspective on life. It’s not just about where you go but how it shapes you.</p>

<p>I've always been passionate about learning from new cultures, connecting with people around the globe, and exploring different places. Traveling has broadened my perspective, and I firmly believe that stepping outside of our comfort zones allows us to truly embrace all that life has to offer.</p>
<p>I’ve always had a deep desire to make a meaningful impact on others, and I’ve found great purpose in working with students in the study abroad field. It allows me to combine my commitment to service and hands-on learning with my love for travel, meeting new people, and working to support areas with limited resources. I believe cultural humility is something everyone should strive for, as it encourages growth and empathy.</p>
<p>When I decided to pursue a career in speech therapy, I did so with the goal of helping others find their voice. Growing up with a brother who has Down syndrome, I have a unique perspective that has deeply influenced my path. He has been a constant inspiration as I pursued a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, and he was at the heart of my decision to return to school and make a difference in others’ lives.</p>
<p>Therapy Abroad provides the perfect combination for me to partner with universities, collaborate with our partners in different countries, provide clinical services, and lead programs that will impact so many lives. I truly believe in the mission and vision of the company as well as the pillars it was founded on. For all of these reasons and more, I was inspired to work for Therapy Abroad.</p>

<h3>What do you enjoy most about your work?</h3>
<p>I am passionate about collaborating with universities and in-country partners to create exceptional experiential learning opportunities for students. The most rewarding part of this work is running these programs and witnessing firsthand the positive impact we have on Therapy Abroad students, families we provide services for, as well as the teachers, community leaders, and individuals we engage with in other countries.</p>
<h3>What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>Stay open-minded, embrace the unfamiliar, remain flexible, and fully savor each moment. I’d remind myself to slow down, listen to the stories of those I encounter along the way, share meaningful experiences, and don't overpack! Choose the longer path, the one that may be winding and unpredictable, but offers far greater rewards and opportunities for growth for having traveled it.</p>
<h3>Why should someone choose your organization over competitors?</h3>
<p>We are a close-knit, dedicated team that brings a personal touch to everything we do. Flexibility is at the core of our approach, and we deeply value the partnerships we build with our students, universities, non-profits, and government ministries. <p>Our mission is to foster an interactive educational environment where students and professionals can deepen their core competencies, gain valuable clinical experience, and immerse themselves in the richness and challenges of service learning while traveling abroad.</p>
<p>We are continuously expanding our impact by offering more programs in diverse countries and broadening our program types, from short-term two-week experiences to longer-term opportunities of 12+ weeks. Additionally, we have expanded our services across various fields, including, but not limited to, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, and more.</p>
<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>At Therapy Abroad, we hope participants walk away with a deeper sense of cultural humility, personal growth, and a broadened perspective on both their professional and personal lives. We aim for them to gain hands-on, meaningful clinical experience in diverse international settings, while also immersing themselves in the richness of different cultures and communities.</p>
<p>Beyond skills and knowledge, we want them to develop a lasting appreciation for service learning and the impact of their work on the lives of others. We hope they return home with a stronger sense of purpose, increased adaptability, and a renewed passion for their field, knowing they’ve made a tangible difference in the lives of students, families, and communities abroad.</p>
<p>Ultimately, we want them to carry with them the confidence to embrace new challenges, the empathy to understand diverse perspectives, and the inspiration to continue their work with a global mindset.</p>

<p>Traveling abroad and experiencing new cultures is important for several reasons. First, it broadens our perspectives, helping us to see the world beyond our familiar environments and understand diverse ways of life. This fosters empathy and a deeper appreciation for others, breaking down stereotypes and misconceptions.</p>
<p>It also challenges us to step outside of our comfort zones, encouraging personal growth and adaptability. Navigating unfamiliar places and customs builds resilience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of independence.</p>
<p>Moreover, exposure to different cultures helps develop open-mindedness, cultural humility, and a more global outlook, all of which are essential in today’s interconnected world. On top of that, it often sparks creativity and inspiration, as encountering new ideas, art, food, and traditions can profoundly impact our own thinking.</p>
<p>In short, traveling abroad enriches our lives, cultivates deeper connections with others, and opens doors to new opportunities, both personally and professionally.</p>
<h3>What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?</h3>
<p>For anyone considering going abroad, my advice is to embrace the journey with an open mind and heart. Be prepared for challenges, but understand that they’re often the moments that lead to the most growth. Step outside your comfort zone, try new things, and be flexible—things won’t always go as planned, and that's part of the adventure.</p>
<p>Take the time to truly listen and learn from the people you meet along the way. Every person you encounter has a unique story that can enrich your experience and broaden your perspective. Also, be respectful of local customs, traditions, and cultures—approach everything with curiosity and cultural humility.</p>
<p>Lastly, remember to savor the small moments. Whether it's a conversation, a beautiful view, or a simple shared meal, these are often the things you’ll remember most. Keep an open heart, be patient with yourself, and trust that the experience will change you in ways you never imagined.</p>

<h3>What hopes do you have for the future of international education?</h3>
<p>I’d love to see continued growth in experiential learning opportunities that combine academics with real-world service, giving students the chance to not only learn but also contribute meaningfully to the communities they engage with. Ultimately, I hope that international education becomes an accessible and transformative experience for all. I believe that the future of international education should focus on enriching students’ perspectives while fostering a sense of responsibility towards making a positive impact in the world.</p>

<p>I originally became inspired to work with Therapy Abroad because the organization combines three of my favorite activities: service, experiencing different cultures, and teaching students.</p>
<p>Therapy Abroad has given me the chance to mentor students by shaping their skills, knowledge, and attitudes, which helps them develop into competent, compassionate clinicians. I can also provide valuable services to areas of the world with limited access to therapy. I can train local communities and professionals, which builds capacity and encourages sustainability in care. I find a true sense of accomplishment when seeing the impact these programs have on students and families.</p>
<h3>Describe a typical day at work.</h3>
<p>A typical day with Therapy Abroad consists of several activities, including local community tours, classroom-based learning, clinical work with children and adults, networking with students and supervisors, and fun-filled excursions.</p>
<p>At the beginning of a program, students and supervisors are given time to get to know one another through group learning opportunities like planning camps for clients visiting during the week. Students then practice report writing, therapy techniques, assessments, and working with clients and families. And, after the hard but fulfilling work is completed, students and supervisors get to enjoy learning about the amazing communities through exciting local excursions.</p>

<h3>Why do you do what you do?</h3>
<p>I find passion in providing care for families and children with neurodevelopmental disorders. I believe in the transformative power of cross-cultural learning and providing accessible services to communities in need. Working with Therapy Abroad allows me to not only mentor and guide future speech-language pathologists, but also make a tangible difference in the lives of people who might not otherwise have access to diagnostic and clinical care.</p>
<p>The experience of working in Belize deepens my own professional practice and gives students an invaluable opportunity to see how their skills can impact diverse populations in meaningful ways. It's incredibly rewarding to be part of a program that blends service, education, and the opportunity to help people from all walks of life.</p>
<h3>What is your favorite part of being a supervisor for Therapy Abroad?</h3>
<p>My favorite part of working with Therapy Abroad is seeing students step out of their comfort zones and transform into confident, compassionate clinicians.</p>
<p>Many of the participants we work with have never had the opportunity to engage with clients, travel internationally, or even fly on an airplane. Watching them navigate these new experiences, often with a mix of excitement and uncertainty, and then grow in their self-belief and clinical skills is incredibly rewarding.</p>
<p>It's fulfilling to see this personal and professional growth unfold, and the fact that it happens across students from diverse backgrounds—both from different parts of the country and around the world—makes it even more meaningful to me.</p>
<h3>How do you use your education and international background in your current role?</h3>
<p>I had the chance to travel internationally several times when I was growing up, which allowed me to develop a love of learning about new places and honoring different cultures. Since then, I have continued to travel abroad and have even planted the "travel bug" into my own children.</p>
<p>I try to instill this love of travel into my students during each international education opportunity while also instilling a love of working with clients and families.</p>

<h3>What challenges do you often face, and how do you overcome them?</h3>
<p>Communication is vital to a person's life, but it does not always develop as society expects. Delayed development, or even just a different communication style, can impact many areas of a person's life. Delayed or impaired communication skills are one of the more prevalent challenges I face as a speech-language pathologist. To overcome these, I teach strategies like compensation and skill-building to clients and family members.</p>
<h3>What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>I would advise my pre-travel self to always take the leap when given an opportunity to travel. My skills as a speech-language pathologist have grown during each of my international trips. It can be scary going to a new place, especially with people you don't know, but the experience is totally worth it. I truly believe that traveling has made me a better clinician.</p>

<h3>What is Therapy Abroad’s mission and how do you continue to work toward it?</h3>

I supervise a variety of interprofessional students throughout the year and develop a number of learning materials. All of these things help my continued work toward Therapy Abroad's mission.</p>
<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>I hope participants take away a deeper understanding of the power of service and cultural exchange. Through our program, I want students to gain invaluable clinical experience while developing a greater sense of empathy, adaptability, and global awareness. By working in a diverse and resource-limited environment, they learn how to approach challenges creatively and become more resourceful clinicians.</p>
<p>Most importantly, I hope they leave with a lasting appreciation for the impact they can make, not just as professionals, but as individuals who are capable of contributing to communities in purposeful ways.</p>
<h3>If you were a first-time participant in one of your organization's programs, where would you go and what would you do?</h3>
<p>If I were a first-time study abroad student looking to participate in one of <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/therapy-abroad-lnc#programs rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>Therapy Abroad's programs</ins></a>, I would consider Belize.</p>
<p>The opportunity to work directly with local communities and provide much-needed clinical services would be an incredible experience. The fact that English is the national language makes it easier to communicate and build strong connections with the locals, which I find invaluable in a clinical setting. Belizean communities are known for being incredibly friendly and welcoming, which would create a supportive environment for learning and growth.</p>
<p>Additionally, the chance to collaborate with other students and professionals from around the world would expand my understanding of healthcare practices and enrich my professional development.</p>
