Join the Turtle Conservation program in Costa Rica with International Volunteer HQ and help protect endangered sea turtles while living on the remote and beautiful Nicoya Peninsula. Volunteers assist with vital conservation tasks including beach patrols, nest monitoring, hatchery construction, relocating eggs when needed, and supporting the safe release of hatchlings. You may also take part in beach cleanups, reforestation efforts such as mangrove planting, and community education activities that promote marine conservation. Volunteers often support both day and night work depending on nesting activity, so expect hands-on tasks and plenty of time outdoors. The Machame route is considered the best Kilimanjaro climbing route due to its highest summit success rate. Climbers acclimatize better at Barranco, making it easier and safer to reach the summit. Additionally, the Machame route is known for its stunning views and the scenic beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro. Opting for the Machame route offers several advantages, including a higher success rate of summiting and a better chance of acclimatization. Accommodation throughout the trek is provided in tented camps, ensuring hikers have a comfortable stay. Take part in this wildlife conservation expedition and be an active member of GVI's research team in the Costa Rican rainforest. Work on a variety of long-term terrestrial, marine conservation, and community education projects. Help conduct turtle population surveys, jaguar predation surveys, jaguar and other mammal camera trapping, and mammal and bird studies. You can also teach English and environmental education in the local communities. The Costa Rica Expedition program has had direct results including decreasing the rate of poaching marine turtles and eggs as well as increasing the understanding of jaguar predation of turtles in Tortuguero National Park.

Seeds of Change seeks to train young biology students in comparative microbial bioinformatics to give them a leg up in this burgeoning field. Students study microbial bioinformatics because microbes are central to all environments on the planet, drive biogeochemical cycles, and perform functions vital to all life forms. Before students travel to Costa Rica, they are introduced to the Joint Genome Institute’s (JGI) Integrated Microbial Genomes and Microbiomes (IMG/M) platform, a gateway to sophisticated genome databases and analysis tools. The five interactive pre-trip modules present a seminal case study that applies the fundamentals of genetics (DNA structure, replication, transcription, translation and gene regulation) to an insect-bacteria symbiotic relationship. Once in Costa Rica, students work with a partner to generate their original research question and use their new-found expertise in microbial bioinformatics to develop a poster of their research. Students engage in off-site activities that include guided hikes in the cloud forest, a zipline adventure in the cloud forest, a coffee tour, a horseback ride in the cloud forest, and a sea turtle marine research experience.

Dive into a unique volunteer opportunity with GoEco's Private Island Marine Conservation Experience in Belize. This program allows you to immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Belize's marine ecosystems while making a tangible difference in their preservation. As a volunteer, you'll use your diving skills to contribute to protecting the delicate coral reef ecosystems that provide food, protection, and shelter to a myriad of marine animals. These ecosystems are under threat due to various factors, and your involvement can help mitigate these threats. Throughout your time on the island, you'll engage in a variety of marine preservation tasks, ranging from survey dives to species identification. You might even have the chance to photograph whale sharks. But the experience isn't all work. You'll also have the freedom to choose how much you want to get involved. All dives are voluntary, so when you're not diving, you can relax in a hammock with a good book, fish from the island, or engage in sea kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.

The lively beach town of Santa Teresa is world famous for surf breaks across beaches pristine, uncrowded and seemingly endless. After surfing and sunbathing are over for the day – and Spanish lessons and surfing! – the town comes alive with funky surf shops, cafes, restaurants and nightspots for every taste and budget. Your experience will be based at ‘Jakera Jungle Surf Camp’ where we have created a jungle paradise complete with swimming pool overlooked by a rich tropical forest bursting with wildlife including red squirrels, howler monkeys and tiny magical hummingbirds. We are a 5 min walk from the cool cafes, bars and shops that line the 6km stretch of road and beach that make up Playa Santa Teresa/Playa El Carmen. This program starts on the first and third Sunday of each month, so clients can ‘settle in’ before the program proper starts on Monday morning. As well as Spanish lessons and professional surf instruction and guided/supervised surfing, other programmed activities include hiking so you can explore and enjoy the beautiful hinterland of Nicoya Peninsula.
