If you want to learn Swahili online with experienced, native-speaking teachers, you have come to the right place. Sprachenatelier Berlin offers Swahili courses at different levels, which means we have something for beginning and advanced learners. If you already have previous knowledge, we will find the fitting level for you through a placement exam and a short conversation. Our online courses are taught by highly qualified, experienced teachers who make learning Swahili an exciting experience and who ensure that you have fun and progress. If you don’t see a course offering that is right for you, you can send us your inquiry through the contact form. We are happy to create an individual offer. Please note that most courses will be taught in both German and the target language (esp. beginner levels), so we recommend at least a B1/B2 level in German. You may contact us if you have any concerns about this. For some classes, particularly advanced levels or private lessons, you might not need any German.

Swahili (also called Kiswahili) is the most widespread language in East Africa. About 90 million people speak it in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Congo, and Mozambique. We offer Swahili language courses across all levels (from beginner to advanced) in Mosh, Zanzibar, and also online. Lessons focus on the ability to communicate and oral expression. You will receive one-to-one lessons from a trained and experienced native-speaking language teacher. If your group has 2-4 members of a similar level, it is also possible to take classes together. You can choose the intensity from 10 to 20 hours per week. Classes will be held at the YMCA in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. In Zanzibar, your teacher will be trained as a language instructor by a non-profit foundation. If you prefer to take lessons from home, you can also take remote Swahili lessons provided by experienced teachers.

The DELE Preparatory Course is focused on students who wish to obtain the official certificate (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) granted by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the only official one that recognizes and certifies the degree of knowledge of the Spanish language. Our DELE Preparatory Course has 60 sessions of specific preparation for these examinations. During this course we will work on the different skills using methods similar to the ones that will be evaluated during the DELE examinations (oral and written interaction, oral and written comprehension). The course is taught by teachers with a wide experience preparing these examinations and accredited by the Cervantes Institute as examiners for DELE.

Swahili, or KiSwahili, is the most common language in the African Great Lakes region, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
Kenya. Culturally and geographically, this is a country of stark contrasts, hosting over 45 tribes and 28 million people speaking dozens of languages. Swahili is an official language in Kenya, so almost anyone you talk to will help you practice. There will be plenty to do during your down time, too. Take a swim in Africa’s largest lake, Lake Victoria, or hike up Mount Kenya, Africa’s second tallest mountain.
Tanzania. Throughout Tanzania, Swahili is quickly replacing local dialects and becoming the main language. If you plan to live, work, or travel in Africa, Tanzania is one of the easier places to pick up Swahili. Hearing English (which happens to be the other official language of the country) can be a relief, and rest assured, you’ll be understood when you’re not sure how to say things like “where is the bathroom?” in Swahili.
Uganda. Both English and Swahili are commonly spoken in Uganda. Other than having blatantly perpetuated anti-LGBT policies, Uganda remains one of the safest destinations in Africa. It’s also one of the most beautiful and packs a punch for its size.
